3 Herdsmen To Be Docked Over Attempt To Kill A Farmer In Ogun State

Three herdsmen may soon appear in court on account of allegedly attempting to murder a farmer in Ogun State.
The suspects, in whose possession was found an AK 47 rifle, would, according to the state's Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Abimbola Oyeyemi, also be charged for unlawful possession of fire arm
The suspects, Mohammed Bello, 40, Mohammed Momoh, 30 and Yisau Umaru, 18, currently in police custody, alongside others at large, were allegedly grazing their cattle, causing the destruction of crops on their victim's farmland at Imedu, Oko-Odo near Oja-Odan when the aggrieved farmer confronted them.

In the process, a heated argument ensued following which the unrepentant herdsmen flared up and threw caution to the wind. They pounced on their victim, Ige Orisade, and inflicted several machete cuts on him and thereafter, fled the scene into an obscure bush.

Information on the alleged criminal act got to the Area Commander, Ilaro, ACP Titus Musa, who promptly dispatched a team of policemen to the scene.

Unfortunately, Crimepuzzle gathered that, on arriving at the scene, the suspects had fled, leaving the detectives to their discretion on how to carry out the order of arrest made by the Area Commander.

The operatives, with the collaboration of a team of local vigilante men, quickly set up a search party, and combed the bush during which the three suspects were arrested.

"Efforts are ongoing to track down other fleeing members of the gang", the PPRO said, adding that the arms recovered from them were one AK 49 riffle, with serial number 513, forty nine 0.8mm life ammunition, 26 live cartridges and two sharp cutlasses.

In his reaction, the state's Commissioner of Police, CP Ahmed Iliyasu, has ordered that the operatives should double their efforts to ensure that all the fleeing members of the gang were apprehended and prosecuted.

The CP, however, assured residents of the state of adequate security of lives and properties, even as he called for the immediate transfer of the three arrested suspects to the Federal Special Anti Robbery Squad (FSARS) for discreet investigation.
