The immediate past Governor of Oyo State, Abiola Ajimobi is dead, it emerged on Thursday afternoon at a private hospital in Lagos after spending weeks in intensive care duerto coronavirus complications.He was 70.
The former Governor, who was named the acting National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) last week Tuesday, had been receiving treatment for over three weeks, battling COVID-19. His aides last week announced that he has recovered from the virus but was being treated for other ailment.
He was first hospitalised in early June after contracting the deadly virus that has now sickened millions and claimed nearly 500,000 lives across the world.
Last week wednesday, June 18, it was rumored that Ajimobi passed on from coronavirus complications as a result of underlying health conditions which was later debunked by his aides and family members as untrue, that he was recovering from another illness. Three days ago reports emerged that the Senator’s health deteriorated and was allegedly placed on life support after undergoing lung surgery but his kidneys failed.
He was a senator from 2003 to 2007. After unsuccessful attempts, he was ultimately elected governor in 2011 and re-elected in 2015, becoming the first Oyo State governor to serve two terms.
