
Zamfara State Government has debunked reports that the 317 students kidnapped from Government Girls Secondary School, Jangebe in the Talata Mafara Local Government Area days ago have regained their freedom.
Armed attackers invaded the school around 1am on Friday, February 26, 2021, and took away the students.
Two days after the attack, report of their release went rife on social media, adding that the victims were on their way to Gusau, the state capital, to meet with Governor Bello Matawalle.
According to PMNews, Governor Bello Matawalle debunked the report in Gusau on Sunday when he received a Federal Government delegation, which came on a sympathy visit.
Matawalle said:
We are using the leaders of the repentant bandits to rescue the schoolgirls from the kidnappers. Very soon we are going to witness the release of the abductees.
He said his administration “is going to continue with peace process with bandits considering its impact in addressing security challenges facing the state”.
Special prayers were offered for the release of the schoolgirls during the visit.
The delegation was led by aviation minister, Hadi Sirika.
