Senate has on Wednesday, February 24 confirmed Abdulrasheed Bawa as the new chairman of Economic Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).
The upper legislative chamber has confirmed Bawa after screening him for over two hours on Tuesday.
President Muhammadu Buhari nominated him as EFCC chairman last week and asked Senate to confirm him.
Bawa has now become the youngest person ever to serve as chairman of the nation’s foremost anti-corruption agency. He is also the first core EFCC official and non-police officer to head the agency, a feat which has been hailed by a large majority of the EFCC staff.
Bawa has worked with the anti-graft agency for 16 years and is a Certified fraud examiner and anti-money laundering expert.
He has a BA in Economics from Usman Dan Fodio University in Sokoto State and replaces former EFCC boss, Ibrahim Magu, who is being investigated on corruption and money laundering charges.
